XML – Node Naming Rules

December 13, 2012

1EDISource offers great data management tools and solutions for all of your EDI needs. This tip is to remind all of us that like EDI, XML must also be syntactically correct. Below are some node naming rules to keep in mind when working with XML.

XML elements must follow these naming rules:

1. Node names can contain letters, numbers, and other characters.

2. Node names cannot start with a number or punctuation character.

3. Node names cannot start with the letters xml (or XML, or Xml, etc).

4. Node names cannot contain spaces.
