The 997 – It Is More Functional Than You Think

There is so much more to a 997 than you might think….as it is called a “Functional” Acknowledgement. So what are its’ functions? The 997 Functional Acknowledgment EDI transaction, a necessary piece of the EDI process, informs recipients that an EDI transaction has been received. This is important when you send out 810 Invoices to get paid and you want to make sure your customer has received them in a timely manner!

Many systems commonly reconcile the incoming and outgoing 997, verify that acknowledgement reporting has occurred inside a window of time (usually 24 hours), and confirm that all EDI transactions were accepted. Read More

What Is In a GS1-128 Number

If your company ships product anywhere, then you may need shipping labels that contain a GS1-128 number and mating bar code. 

For this you need a GS1-128 company prefix number. The company prefix number is assigned exclusively to your company by the GS1 organization. It registers the number and maintains its link to your company on a yearly basis. When trading partners scan your bar coded containers, they know it came from your company. If you’re also sending 856 advance ship notices to them, then they can link that bar coded value to their purchase order and the 856 transaction. Avoiding Unnecessary Duplicate Transaction Key Errors

Usually, you want to know if you see a duplicate transaction key error because it may prevent duplication of a transaction.

For instance, you most likely would not want an 850 PO with the same PO Number going through your system without warning. Sometimes though, with transactions that may occur several times, turning off the duplicate transkey checking can be desirable.
