Belk Inc.-Notice of Plans to Convert from Clear to Black Hangers for Spring Season 2012

May 11, 2011

Belk Inc EDI Update

Beginning with Spring Season 2012, Belk will no longer use clear hangers and instead will require vendors to provide black matte hangers made of recycled plastic materials for all apparel classifications with the exception of infants, toddlers and intimate apparel. This move is part of Belk’s ongoing sustainability efforts and also supports the Voluntary Industry Commerce Solutions (VICS) Association’s initiative to promote the use of environmentally friendly hangers.

All spring goods received by Belk as of November 15, 2011 and thereafter in the classifications noted above should be placed on recycled black matte hangers. The requirement does not apply to goods shipped with wood hangers or other non-clear hangers as defined by the VICS standard.

We are updating our BEST plan on Belk.com, along with our Floor Ready Hanger standards. More details about our hanger conversion process will be provided later.

We appreciate your support and help in adopting this new standard for hangers that will benefit both our companies and our environment.
